Fireworks for Freedom Part 1

Who: Keine Kamishirasawa, Chrissy White, Nitori Kawashiro, Lily White, Nanabi Tsukishiro, Reisen Inaba, Ember, Aya Shameimaru, Minoriko Aki, Yumemi Okazaki, Kani Basami, Ashe Gray
Where: Farmer's Square
What: Chrissy hosts an event known to her homeland
Watch For: Fireworks, Singing, colorful things

It's an interesting feeling as there are a small number of vendors, besides the usual ones in this area. There is sections made for grilling and common games the werewolf from a far land help create, a couple which include an iron stake in the ground and tossing a horseshoe at it and a good array of pop guns to help test your gun totting needs. Not like it matters when you have Danmaku but it's something to try out.

In the back there is a staging area being set up, most likely for the concert being held during the night time. One has to feel the casual social event is high in energy as they start to get under way with enjoy a mild event for what is the usual day in Gensokyo.

--------------------

Well with such a gathering set up it seemed natural to have your stall open. Even if it wasn't mostly there to sell things but to store things for later. Nitori was at her stall but it looked oddly enough like most of the items for sale were not there as if she was set to work on something else at this time. Like usual Nitori had her Extending Arms backpack on but behind her instead of row after row of odd Outsider artifacts were a number of closed and locked cases behind her with warnings about Not for Sale and Fire Hazard. Whatever it was it looked Nitori may have had something a bit flammable on her this time. Was it there more for later or was she having things which should be helping for grilling things that would be needed later. Or did that odd American woman commission a Kappa to do something for later.

--------------------

Instead of her usual white dress, Lily was clad in a pale pink kimono with a floral pattern on it. A red bow adorned her hair, much like it would on her normal hat. She flew around the tops of the stalls, watching as the participants set themselves up. One particular stall caught her eye. It was the stall of the Kappa Engineer, Nitori Kawashiro. At these festivals, her stalls always had oddities, but this time, instead of odd artifacts, there were display cases lined up containing who knows what in them... She fluttered down to the front of the stall to get a better look.

--------------------

While everyone else is busy preparing for the fireworks, Nanabi is preparing herself with his own Mini-Pot stall, selling his usual kind of soba. The fox is the usual attendee for festivals like these, just to promote his bigger restaurant more. He's not there just to sell noodles, though, because when the right time comes, he'd participate in the fireworks display as well!

--------------------

Well that was a bit odd to see a fairy having switched to another fancier outfit. Such a rarity to see as it looks like that swarm of fairies with fiery colors hadn't shown up and that was a relief as fire wasn't what she wanted to see here. Still she looked to this little fairy, "Hello Miss Fairy, Please do not touch the boxes." There still were some minor things near the front but the reserve objects were all these cases. A few odd outsider objects, a strange tube with a wider opening at the end, a Fake flower wearing odd glasses, what looked to be a strange hourglass with a strange colored liquid dripping down from the top to the bottom and running along all sorts of odd gears and ramp, along with a few other odd outsider things. Of course Nitori's keeping an eye on the fairy as Fairies were always unpredictable on how they'd react to things.

--------------------

Reisen Inaba has a booth going with several of the Earth Rabbits - one that appears to have large jars of candy. "Reisen, are you sure this is a good idea?" One of the Earth rabbits asks, as Reisen puts a large jar full of rock candy on the counter. "Miss Eirin asked us to try to sell more of the medicinal candies she had in stock, so that's what we're trying to do." Reisen replies. "You two get back to the Mochi stall on the other end of the square. I'll head up the candy stall for now." Gleeful, the Rabbits run off, several heading to the aforementioned booth and a few just wandering off, leaving Reisen to man the candy stall on her lonesome, hanging up a banner reading "HEALING CANDIES".

--------------------

Lily White’s eyes wander over the oddities that weren't in the boxes, such as the odd tube and the strange looking hourglass. "What's this?" she asks, pointing at the flared tube. Logically it looked like some sort of device that produced sound, though she couldn't be too sure.

--------------------

Intrigued by the many fire warnings, Ember made her way to Nitori's stall. Looking closely at the many boxes and devices, she could only imagine what was inside.

--------------------

"Well it's a thing I've not figured out what it's supposed to actually do. It's like a big Funnel that you could pour things through. Something you could lean on, I think you could use it for being a club," Of course Nitori was one to think of odd ways one could use things or how to improvise their usage. "I think you could shout through it but I don't think it works that good as you couldn't get anything to make anything louder in it," She lifted the tube and showed that it was quite empty inside it, "Maybe I only found part of the device." And then Nitori looked to the newcomer, "Welcome to my stall and you're free to look around, Just stay in front of the stall the things in the back are off limits."

--------------------

The spring fairy looked through the tube. It was indeed quite empty, and didn't seem quite as interesting anymore... Plus it seemed to be made out of plastic. If it were a club, as Nitori suggested, it wouldn't make a very good one as plastic, as far as Lily knew, didn't make for a very good weapon. The smell of food tempted the fairy, and Nitori would soon find Lily drifting away from her stall and towards the source of the smell.

--------------------

The seven-tailed fox didn't notice a fairy approaching his stall, as he is busy making sure the broths are properly heated. When he does, though, he straightens his uniform, greeting fairy. "Hello there, cute little one. Feeling hungry? Have a seat, and give my soba a try~" The fox coos, waving his fluffy tails about. First customer of the festival!

--------------------

Reisen Inaba finished setting the candy jars on the counter, as well as the display case, brushing her hair (and bunny ears) back, looking around and seeing if any familiar faces were visiting the square thus far. She did spot Lily, waving briefly, before thinking better of it. The last thing needed was a fairy feeding frenzy. Like blood into a piranha-infested river, that'd be.

--------------------

Luckily for Reisen, Lily didn't notice the candy-filled stall. Even if it was medicinal candy, it would still pique the fairy's interest if she saw it. Besides, the candies were in sealed jars. No way was any sort of scent getting out of those. The smell of Nanabi's noodles was what had her attention at the moment. Accepting his invitation, she took a seat on one of the stools and looked around the stall. "Sure, I'll try some," she says cheerfully. Can't have a festival without some sort of noodle stand, right?

--------------------

Another person seems to be gliding into the farmer's square, clad in a black kimono with maple leaf print. A little cliché for a tengu, but it still works on her. She makes her way down to ground level and immediately starts firing off photographs of everyone and everything. No rest for the press! Now... just a matter of figuring out where to go forest. Her immediate thought is to go over to Nitori's stall to see what's new. But business is supposed to come before friends. But what about friends AND business? That works for her, and she heads over. "Hiya, Nitori. Looks like things are getting set up, huh?"

--------------------

Nitori looked up to see Aya there and the sound of her camera clicking to take pictures of the stall and everything, "Well Aya it really is. It's slowly starting and well I got things set for later on. Looks like that Outsider woman wanted a nice display for later on and I managed to acquire the things she wanted, for a fee of course. I figure this is going to be able to fund so many experiments now!" she said with a smile. And with the Boost Mk II backpack having NOT exploded it meant that Nitori might be able to get a reasonable amount of time between tests this time!

--------------------

"One festival soba coming right up." The fox masterfully twirls the ladle between his fingers, grabbing a bowl and fling it up with soba noodles, followed by the broth, and then the garnish. It was quite simple but still appetizing, and he serves it for Lily, giving her a cup of tea for the drink as well. "Enjoy your meal~"

--------------------

"Payday, eh? Good for you." Aya smirks, looking over Nitori's odds and ends. Probably a couple of neat things there for someone in the know, but the only thing Aya really understands that well is her camera. At least as far as kappa tech goes. "What kind of display are we talking about? And which outsider woman? You gotta give me some kind of good inside info." No she doesn't. "Oh, by the way, thanks for all the help with the camera."

--------------------

Nitori shook her head, "It actually gets me a lot less than you'd think as well rockets are expensive..." Nitori said as she poked her fingers together, "And it's that outsider musician who put on that show last year with the bands," She took a deep breath, "And it's nothing fancy there and really I just hoped some more of this outsider stuff sold," and with another thought, "Also don't worry I keep any camera parts or related things I find separate as I know you Tengu need those kind of things for your work."

--------------------

Lily White sniffs the noodles, loving the smell of them. "Smells great! Thanks!" she says happily, using some chopsticks to take a mouthful of the noodles. "Mmmmm..." Her delight at the noodles was obvious.

--------------------

"Oh, that one. Yeah I could see her being interested in this kind of stuff." Aya keeps looking, even taking a picture or two of the wares. "Well, I can spread the word for you. Not sure how much it'll do coming from me, but I can give a hand at least." She grins, finally breaking her attention from the various toys and tools Nitori has spread out. "I guess you can only make so much profit. You just made it sound like one heck of a windfall."

--------------------

The smile on the cook's face is really evident by now, and while Lily is busy feasting on his soba, the seven-tailed fox continues to attract more attention to his stall, offering a variety of noodles for the people who stop by. There are customers who prefer to take-away instead of sitting down and eat, but the fox was eager to serve anyway, giving them free covered bowls for their noodles. One could wonder how many of those bowls did the fox bring along.

--------------------

"Well I had to buy the fireworks for her as well I don't think there was enough in the village so I had to get to other sources still it did help with relationships right?" SHe shook her head as she looked up, "Best deal I've had in months so I'll take it." Nitori paused as she looked around, "I'm a little suprised she's not done other crazy requests of others as she seems to really be focused on Outsider goods even though really she looks like a youkai now, I don't know why she looks like some weird wolf youkai now when she was a human before. Maybe she was a youkai in disguise?"

--------------------

"Yeah. Fireworks, gunpowder... other stuff." Yeah, she's not good at making explosions like that. Aya'd rather just use danmaku though. "Oh well. You got a deal for 'em and that's the important thing, right?" She looks over at Chrissy, setting up her stage performance for the show. Yeah there's definitely something more to it. "I dunno. I'm not sure what sort of things happened to her. Maybe I'll make that my next expose."

--------------------

"Yea Fireworks are really complicated and hard to get in the amount she wanted. I barely got the amount she wanted. And Even that was just so many I couldn't figure what she wanted them for," The inventor said as she pointed to the boxes behind her, "It should be a great show when it happens Just need to properly organize things and we'll be having them flying nice and hight you see." She tugged on her hat to pull it down a bit, "I figure she might be doing fireworks all night and really I'm just hoping not that many explode before they get up high enough.'

--------------------

Reisen Inaba leans back in her booth, as, on the opposite side of the square, some of the Earth Rabbits have gotten their mochi stand up. "Think we'll sell more than Reisen will?" One asks. "Probably." The other responds, trying to wave over a fairy or two with promises of free samples. Reisen, meanwhile, spotting Nitori, waves to her, just glad to see a familiar face.

--------------------

That would be a problem. Fires, hospitalizations... Good news though. Aya smirks, any number of things running through her brain. "Yeah, that would be a shame, now wouldn't it? Little surprised we aren't going with the usual fairy danmaku thing though. All that takes is something shiny or some sweets or something." She notes Reisen too, giving a quick wave in turn. Even if she wasn't the original target of said wave.

--------------------

Yumemi's appearance at these types of celebrations was a given since her first arrival, heading into the festival and taking her time to examine her surroundings. She had time to kill, dressed up in a red-patterned yukata her hair in the usual braid. The red-clothed girl eventually came upon the rabbit's stand, taking the sign about miraculous healing candies with a grain of salt. Wouldn't hurt to try, though! She had a hardier constitution than that... "Excuse me, how much is it for a small sample of those? And...what do you mean by 'healing candies'." The human looked confused. After all, she'd have to test a few later on...or something. They might actually not be harmful at all, if this was true.

--------------------

Her curiosity satisfied, Ember left Nitori's stand to find food. The rabbits' stand caught her eye, and though she had no idea what mochi was, she decided to try that first. She was also extremely short on money, and they were offering free samples.

--------------------

"I don't think she knows about it. Last year she didn't even think there were youkai. Maybe she hasn't learned enough about how things are to use such things or maybe this festival in the Outside is only done with Fireworks so she's wanting to keep it authentic?" The Kappa answered as she rubbed the back of her head, "I really didn't ask what the purpose of this was for to be honest. I was a bit too focused on making sure I could get the rockets she wanted and get them here safely without losing them or having people taking things from my shop."

--------------------

The rabbits offer some Mochi to Ember; clearly some form of dessert confection. Closer investigation reveals it to be sweetened rice dough wrapped around a strawberry filling. The Rabbit quickly points out that there's other flavors as well, and that they're selling them in small boxes, freshly-made at Eieintei.

--------------------

"It's tough to say with that one. She's probably still in denial." Aya smirks at that. She remembers how much Chrissy used to think things were fake. "She'll get used to it eventually. Just gotta give her time or something. Let's just hope she doesn't want to use them to blow stuff up or something." She starts looking around the festival. Hmm. Mochi? Maybe. Or maybe some of those weird candies. Though maybe not since Eirin's stuff tends to be a little more than a little weird. And that kitsune has always had good food too.

--------------------

Reisen Inaba bowed politely. "Hello, miss Yumemi." Reisen said. "Would you care to try one of our medicinal candies? They're conventional chocolates, candies, and rock candy, but they're made with healing medicines developed by Eirin as an active ingredient. The result is a treat that can help treat wounds, or reduce fevers whilst still being tasty." She chuckles. "Could I interest you in one? They're actually quite good."

--------------------

Ember nibbled slowly at the mochi, trying to make it last. The mochi was by far the most delicious thing she had ever eaten, and immediately after finishing, she bought a box for later.

--------------------

The red professor didn't quite believe that, but she was rather interested in this venture, giving the Moon Rabbit a slow nod. "...I didn't realize you rabbits made these sorts of things, but yes, I wouldn't mind a taste." She shrugged a little, having heard of this famous Lunar Doctor from others in the village, the so called genius in the field of medicine. It might be good to pay her a visit later, she thought. "Dr. Yagokoro seems to be a woman of many talents, doesn't she?" With a small chuckle, the red scientist added. "...Come to think of it, I haven't seen you since that mishap with the cursed tower..."

--------------------

Nitori sighed, "I Just can't figure how you could deny all this stuff forever. And I don't think she'd be one to blow up things. I think But if it came to that I could just douse the rockets with water and they shouldn't fly... I think. Not sure if I got waterproofed ones or not." She shook her head, "Just had to get what I did and I never expected to have to flood them so I think It'll work fine. She never seemed to be one for destroying things."

--------------------

Reisen Inaba nods. "It's been some time, I know. Between my work with the rabbits lately, and helping miss Eirin out, I've been swamped with work. This, frankly, is a nice change of pace." She chuckles, opening one case and retrieving a piece of chocolate, offering it to the Red professor free of charge. "This is one of our more popular ones; it's a spiced chocolate candy that includes a formula to help one recover from injuries faster."
Yumemi takes the offering and eats it with a small smile of thanks to the generous Lunar bunny. She finds the taste of this medicinal sweet a little to her liking, at least. "I suppose so. Between meeting up with old friends and having fairies infest my laboratory this Spring, I've had quite a lot to deal with. Then again, I suppose my work's a little more...informal, compared to the good doctor. I'd agree that this is as good a time to relax as any, though." She pauses for a moment, enjoying the flavor of the treat, a little curious about the other types on display. "These are actually pretty good. But I wouldn't want to take another one and leave less for anybody else. Do the other ones have specific uses or abilities? And...if I might ask, were they made with scientific work or by magical means." She smiles a bit, hoping for an honest answer... "I'm just curious, you know..." This knowledge could benefit her research, if magic was the reason behind it! Maybe, just maybe!

--------------------

Reisen Inaba smiles. "These mostly were made with Eirin's alchemical skills. Some might be magical in origin, like the chocolates, but the bulk of them simply use herbal and natural ingredients. The rock candy, for example, is made using a fruit that grows locally and is known for its ability to reduce fevers, but has a very bitter taste. By combining it with fruit and the candy format, it's something that parents can give children.... Or we can give a rabbit, if she gets sick." Reisen giggles. "Which ones are magic and which ones are more conventional I can tell you on a case-by-case basis."

--------------------

"It's a big step. I really can't say what it's like on the outside. Whatever, though." Aya grins, nodding to Nitori as she explains the fail-safes on the rockets. Hopefully no issue with explosions. "I know she doesn't seem to want to. Doesn't mean it couldn't happen by accident, though, right?"

--------------------

Suddenly! A loud booming voice comes from the stage comes an announcement done by some random villager. "Thank you all for attending this year's first annual..." The female village would cover the mic with her hand to look over her shoulder as she isn't sure what she's announcing. After a small talk she removes her hand and resumes. "Right! We're having some difficulties with... Some of these things I've never seen before but we're about done. In 15 minutes we're about to begin a cook off, followed by a concert from our hostess, then it'll be dark enough for the firework's display. Thank you for your patience." She bows and shuffles off the stage.

--------------------

"I wouldn't mind learning a little more. After all, I've always had a love for understanding the effects of magic on various things." She looked to the other candy samples and added... "See, I received some samples from an associate a while back: magical potions that temporarily bolstered things such as stamina and physical strength." Yumemi figured this this might be a chance to get one of her personal projects out of the way, if she was able to! "Can you tell me a little more about...how exactly the more magical ones were made? I've been trying to replicate the effects of those potion samples for a while, now, and all my attempts to replicate or bind it with anything else it just ended up with...unpleasant reactions. But hearing something like this just makes combining magic and mudane seem like it's far too easy!" Yumemi felt like she was beaten at her own game, albeit indirectly. How could she prove that magic could co-exist with science when it was this malleable?

--------------------

Reisen Inaba Nods affirmatively. "Many of Eirin's medicines use alchemy; they are magically purified or put into a charged state." She rubs the back of her head, cocking an ear. "Potions that boost physical abilities often require magical distillates; for example, I remember Eirin made a drought to increase one's stamina that was brewed from not just herbs, but Sake from an Oni's Gourd. I remember her giving the Oni a sizable bottle of wine in exchange." She chuckles. "I'm not as skilled at making medicines as Lady Eirin, but I do have some training in field medicine, so knowing how to make *some* of these remedies is something I'm capable of." Reisen says proudly.

--------------------

Yumemi seemed a little intrigued at this. After all, if the rabbit was trained under Eirin, she might be able to help. Even a little would be fine for someone without those kinds of talents! "...I don't suppose you could help me with my potion problems, then? Granted, I'm trying to use technological means, and they'll won't be exactly on par, even if I succeed and certainly won't be alchemy. But I'd really appreciate learning a little more about how this process actually works." Even if Yumemi was doing it rather backwards, compared to Eirin's methods... "Do you think that'd be fair to ask of you?"

--------------------

Once again, the same announce comes back to do the usual bit. "Thank you all for waiting. We're ready to begin our first event. If you kind make your way over to the cooking area, we have grills and a few buckets of water in case you set the stand on fire." Grand, it was a few grill stands a couple of venders were willing to allowed access to just for today. The owners were standing next to them armed with water just in case someone decided to try their hand at cooking for the first time.

The hostess, known as Chrissy White was standing in the cooking area with a very happy looking grin. "Hey there! I'll be attending this as well! I haven't done this in a while, but it's not that hard to use a spatula!" She was rather decorative too. She had to go with her home grown colors to stand out as she was helping out with this. Just sporting a light blue, unbutton shirt with a white one under it, and a nice pair of crimson slacks that were made here as she didn't have any in her regular clothing in that color. "I plan on winning this!" She would say with eagerness, getting into her spot.

--------------------

Reisen Inaba bows politely. "I would be glad to be of assistance, but it will need to wait until after this particular festival." She says, gesturing to the hostess.

--------------------

"I guess that's my cue. Sorry, Nitori, but I need to get to the judges' booth." Aya grins, licking her lips as she walks over to the tables. "Just try not to kill me with undercooked food or something. I can handle a lot, but I ain't eat everything." She has a seat, watching over the proceedings. "Uhh... Chrissy, you have the rules or time limit for this or something? I gotta have something to judge."

--------------------

Nanabi was taking part in the cook-off as well, having letting Ichibi to take care of the Mini-Pot. Still clad in his shop uniform, the fox twirls his spatula about, getting ready for the competition as well! "Might as well try and see if I can win this." He said, giving his usual foxy smile as he takes a spot in the cooking area. He eyes his possible opponents, particularly Chrissy.

--------------------

Suddenly, a little crab youkai runs in, carrying several fish tied to a pole on her shoulders! "Ah, I'm here! Sorry! It took a while to catch the fish! Stupid fairies kept scaring them off!" she calls out to Aya.
--------------------

The younger of the Aki sisters, the harvest deity Minoriko Aki herself, has decided to take a shot at this! She was not exactly sure what was going to be cooked for this competition, but she was eager to try her hands on something new... and if it was something she was already familiar to begin with, this should be an easy win for her. She was attending in her usual outfit, not in a yukata, since her very own family business has set upo shop somewhere at the Farmer's Square, too. Even though her sister took over the business for now, there was no time to get dressed nicely... but this was the appearance her followers knew her in by far the best.

"I am happy to be part of this today! Let's make this a fun competition, shall we?", Minoriko would exclaim, as she moved over to her designated grill, not without giving a modest wave at the gathered crowd, getting a few cheers from the farmers who all were familiar with her, naturally. She has quite a following here! Seeing a few familiar faces, Minoriko was sure that this could be interesting, especially since she is not the only one here with expertise in cooking.

--------------------

Lily White flutters over to where the cook-off was taking place. She glances over the contestants and sees the seven-tailed fox from before, Chrissy, and... Minoriko? "Huh," Lily muttered to herself, "Never would have thought she was one to enter a cooking contest..." She hovers off to the side of the crowd to watch the competition.
